Carl Friedrich von Wurmb emigrated to Batavia, where he lived until his death. Among other things he was active as a naturalist there. He was the first person to publish an accurate description of the Borneo orangutan and he also was the first person to publish on the proboscis monkey.
The German poet Friedrich Schiller wrote a novella based on an incident in Carl Friedrich’s life.
